Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Product Development Innovation Manager to work with a cross-functional team to design innovative surgical implants and instrumentation by performing the following duties:

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Participate in the concept generation and mechanical design of various spinal surgical implants and
    instrumentation
  2. Generate solid models and design drawings/specifications per best engineering design practices
  3. Proficient with Solid Works 2009 preferred, including surfacing
  4. Perform engineering analyses including tolerance stackups, structural analysis (hand-calculation as well as FEA) and FMEA
  5. Proficient with Solid works Simulation or other FEA software
  6. Assist in the development and performance of verification and validation tests
  7. Document data and procedures per Companies Quality System
  8. Interface with vendors for rapid prototyping, manufacturing, standard instruments and testing.
  9. Participate in the development and execution of internal procedures
  10. Interface with surgeons, industrial designers and marketing personnel to create designs
  11. Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a minimum of 2 years of product design experience,
including design for machining.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and capabilities (machining, turning, sheet metal forming, molding/casting) and experience with rapid prototyping techniques (such as SLA, SLS or 3-D Printing) desired.
• Proficiency with Solid Works 2009 or later CAD experience is essential.
• Experience with drafting per ASME/ANSI Y14.5M, GD&T required.
• FEA experience required.
• Sensitivity to human factors/ergonomics in design desired.
• Medical device and orthopedic experience a plus.

• Proficiency with computers and various software applications is required.
• The ability to work in an extremely fast paced and dynamic environment with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team is essential.
• Sensitivity to customer service
• Able to maintain a high degree of flexibility across all areas of responsibility is essential
